Strong winds are sweeping through Palma this Thursday, causing trees to fall in different parts of the city. Emergency services are on-site, securing affected areas and clearing debris that is blocking roads and damaging vehicles.
The first incident is unfolded around 9.20 AM on Torcuato Luca de Tena Street, near number 43. A large tree collapsed across the road, bringing traffic to a standstill and creating a hazardous situation for commuters.
The Palma Fire Brigade is responding promptly, with a ladder truck and support vehicle. Firefighters are using chainsaws to cut the tree into manageable sections so the road can be cleared safely.
Meanwhile, a second tree has succumbed to the gusty conditions in the Coll d'En Rabassa neighborhood. It has fallen onto a parked vehicle, leaving several dents and scratches in its wake.
Local Police officers are attending both locations, implementing road closures to ensure public safety and allow emergency crews to work efficiently. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation as the strong winds persist.
The yellow alert for high winds, issued yesterday, remains in effect across the Tramuntana, southern, and eastern areas from 7 AM to 5 PM. Gusts are expected to reach 70–80 km/h, rising to 100 km/h on peaks and capes. The coastal warning has also been extended to the east, in addition to the Tramuntana and south, with waves reaching up to three metres.
