With temperatures currently in the mid to high 20ºC as we come to the end of October, Mallorca appears to be enjoying the great end to the peak season with winter looking strong bookings wise, especially with the UK market. And, according to the latest report by Ferryhopper, “Mallorca beats Greece and Italy to claim 2nd best Mediterranean winter sun spot.”

New research reveals one Spanish destination is outperforming traditional winter sun rivals. Mallorca has secured the coveted 2nd position in the top 10 Mediterranean winter sun destinations.
The research team at ferry booking platform Ferryhopper analysed destinations across Europe, examining average temperature, daylight hours, rainfall, and accommodation costs to determine the best winter sun escapes.

Key findings:
•Mallorca offers 10.37°C warmth and nearly 10 hours of daily sunshine, paired with low rainfall and scenic coastal charm. Explore Palma’s Gothic cathedrals, hike the cliffs of Dragonera, and unwind in sunlit villages, all for an average hotel price of €154 per night.

Winter tourism could help diversify Spain’s seasonal economy, especially in regions like the Balearics, where summer peaks dominate. Mallorca’s strong off-season performance signals potential to extend hospitality jobs, reduce seasonal migration, and stabilise local income streams.
Top 10 winter sun destinations:

1 Malta
2 Mallorca
3 Sardinia Italy
4 Kusadasi Turkey
5 Split Croatia
5 Piran Slovenia
7 Vlorë Albania
8 Mykonos
9 Santorini
10 Bar
Montenegro

The travel experts at Ferryhopper commented: “Winter sun tourism gives Spain a chance to build a more balanced tourism calendar and rely less on the summer high season. Spain has a wide range of cultural destinations and mild coastal winters, so places like Mallorca can attract visitors who want to enjoy the weather and local life without the summer crowds. This helps spread tourism more evenly across the year and supports local businesses during quieter months.

Mallorca is already seeing signs of this shift, with growing interest in off-season travel and events like the almond blossom season drawing winter visitors. Spanish business owners can promote seasonal foods, nature trails, and historic sites that are easier to enjoy when the island is calm and sunny, creating a year-round model that benefits both travellers and the local economy.”
