A man died late on Monday after being struck by a vehicle while walking along the motorway in the direction of the airport. Paramedics who arrived at the scene were unable to save his life due to the severity of the impact. The Civil Guard has taken charge of the investigation into the incident.
The tragic event occurred shortly after 11pm on the Ma-19, according to official sources. Several drivers contacted the emergency services (112) to report that a man was walking along the motorway and was in danger of being hit by passing vehicles.
Moments later, new witnesses called to report that the man had been run over. He was pronounced dead almost instantly as a result of the collision. The 112 control centre immediately mobilised emergency response teams to the location.
Several patrols from the Local Police, the Civil Guard, and ambulances from Samu-061 attended the scene of the incident. Upon arrival, paramedics confirmed that the victim had already died from his injuries.
Traffic officers from the Civil Guard are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine how the man came to be walking along the motorway and the exact sequence of events that led to his death.
