Ministry of defence plans to create a weapons warehouse at Son Sant Joan Airport in Palma have united the left and right of Mallorca's politics in their criticisms.

The ruling party, the Partido Popular (on the right), say there has been "institutional disloyalty" due to the lack of information provided to local authorities. On the left, Més maintain there has been a "lack of respect", Podemos say they are "against militarisation", while PSOE are not commenting for now, as they want more information. Only Vox on the right have unequivocally expressed their support for "the presence of the Air Force in the Balearic Islands". In their opinion, the facility is "a strategic and necessary investment to guarantee national security".

For the PP, Més and PSOE, the plans go beyond the military reasons. They are all advocates of airport co-management. In this regard, the PP's parliamentary spokesperson, Sebastià Sagreras, says: "We believe there should be more institutional loyalty; we can't learn about this through the media. The ministry should have contacted the government and the town hall to explain its intentions."

Més spokesperson Lluís Apesteguia sees a "lack of respect" at a time when there is debate as to the need for greater co-management and of the tourism management model. Where Més and the PP diverge is on the military aspect.

Apesteguia says: "We do not want this land to be used for war machines, neither for the United States nor for the Spanish state." Sagreras stresses that the PP are "aware of the country's security needs, given that we are part of NATO".
