The new agrarian law in the Balearics is now out for public consultation, the text stating: "The spirit of the law is not to provide aid, but rather tools that promote the development of the agricultural sector, seeking to improve the profitability of farms by facilitating their activities and ensuring their environmental role."

A key aspect is therefore a return to the 2014 law in promoting activities that are complementary to farming. And these include tourism.

Farm stays had already been provided for in both the 2014 and 2019 laws, but farmers may now accommodate guests not only in the farm's main residence but also in other buildings on the same farm. Essentially, these will be buildings that housed animals.

These buildings may be renovated and expanded by up to 20% in adapting them to habitable conditions. They will be subject to conditions requiring that guests are offered to take part in agricultural activities and are able to purchase farms' products.

They can have a maximum of ten places (beds), but this doesn't mean that new places will be added to the existing total for all accommodation. Island councils, which control accommodation places, will apply a discount of 60% for the purchase of these places.
