Banca March and Palma Aquarium Foundation have successfully released 70 seahorses between Cala Figuera and Cabo Salines as part of the 'Cavallets de mar Balears' project. The releases, conducted on October 1st and 3rd , took place in designated Sites of Community Importance (SCI), areas of special ecological value that contribute to marine biodiversity restoration.

On October 1st, Palma Aquarium's technical team transported 66 common seahorse specimens to Puerto Portals, followed by four more specimens to Colònia de Sant Jordi on October 3rd. The operation was carried out using the zero-emission electric sailboat Galaxie Stenella, operated by TrueWorld company.

The initiative received support from the 7 Mares diving centre, which provided the necessary equipment for the release. The seahorses, bred at Palma Aquarium's facilities, were maintained in a controlled environment for 18 months until reaching approximately 12 centimetres in length, significantly improving their chances of survival in their natural habitat.

This latest release contributes to the project's impressive total of 1,518 seahorses introduced into Balearic waters, marking a significant milestone in local marine conservation efforts.
