Traffic between Soller and Palma will be affected at night four days a week for six weeks due to maintenance and safety upgrades in the Soller Tunnel. Night-time closures will begin on Monday, 6 October, and are expected to continue until 13 November, taking place from Monday to Thursday. The tunnel will remain open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
The Consell has confirmed the schedule and will notify affected town councils, with closures also indicated on road signs. The work focuses on improving the safety communication system and replacing cameras and incident detection equipment, alongside routine maintenance such as drainage cleaning and fire and ventilation system inspections. Emergency vehicles and TIB buses will be allowed through with prior notice.
The announcement has already sparked complaints from residents. Many argue the closures, forcing traffic via the Coll route, will disrupt night-time workers, early-morning travellers—including tourists and hospitality staff, and traders buying fresh supplies in Palma. Més per Sóller and Més per Mallorca have urged the Consell to delay nightly closures until 11 pm to reduce the impact on night-time commuters.
