Schools and secondary schools across Ibiza have been hit by leaks and severe flooding following an orange weather alert, which was upgraded to red at noon due to heavy rainfall. The Balearic Ministry of Education has urged families not to go to schools to collect their children, warning that doing so could put everyone’s safety at risk. Authorities stressed that pupils are safe and under supervision, and reassured parents that there is no need to attend the schools.

The precautionary evacuation of Colegio Santísima Trinidad in Sant Antoni highlighted the severity of the situation, with flooding on the ground floors and damage to the electrical systems caused by water infiltration. Other schools have also been affected, with leaks and waterlogged areas reported.

At IES Sa Blanca Dona, teachers have been bailing out water using buckets, with their trousers rolled up to their knees. Many staff have questioned why lessons were not cancelled in advance, given the orange alert. At present, teaching is not possible as staff focus on removing the water.

At Puig d'en Valls school, entry and exit have been blocked after a local stream overflowed, and staff have been instructed that no one may leave until 4pm. The Balearic Ministry of Education is currently compiling reports of the incidents across the island.
