Marina B., an acrobat from Mallorca and a member of the Circus Paul Busch troupe in Germany, tragically lost her life on Saturday afternoon after falling from a trapeze during a performance in the city of Bautzen, Saxony.

The 27-year-old fell from a height of around five metres and was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving spectators in shock, according to local police spokesperson Stefan Heiduck. Around a hundred people were watching the show when the accident occurred. “The crisis response team was immediately deployed to assist both spectators and circus staff,” Heiduck said. After the incident, the audience left the tent and returned home, with support helplines made available, particularly for children affected by the traumatic event.

Marina B. had an extensive career, performing in circuses across Germany, Spain, Andorra, and Poland. A former gymnast, she began her circus career in 2018 and was renowned for her passion and versatility, particularly in aerial performances.

The police are currently classifying the incident as a workplace accident. There is no evidence of third-party fault, and it is unlikely there will be, as acrobats are usually responsible for setting up their own equipment,” authorities stated.

The mayor of Bautzen, Karsten Vogt, expressed his condolences. “On behalf of the city, I extend my deepest sympathies to her family and loved ones. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic accident,” he said.
