Police unions have called protests for October 6 and 15 against a Palma Town Hall failure to implement a plan for the restructuring of police work and a failure to address police pay.

Restructuring has been demanded in order to provide a better work-life balance, unions saying that schedules currently require cover for "many more weekends, holidays, and night shifts .. making it almost impossible to reconcile work-life balance".

"The administration does not value our enormous work and sacrifice by adjusting our salaries." In short, they are demanding an annual work schedule that takes into account shift work and allows officers who wish to remain in their current positions to continue doing so in addition to receiving "financial adjustments" "It's time to take action. It's clear that the mayor doesn't keep his word."

On Thursday, four of the five unions sent a message to their members that was highly critical of the Partido Popular ruling administration. "After more than a year and a half of negotiations, back and forth, standstills, promises and cuts ... we say enough is enough. This supposed negotiation of our necessary and long-awaited restructuring plan has come to an end." Unions point out that the mayor, Jaime Martínez, had promised it would be signed in the summer.

The ATAP union isn't fully in step with the four other unions (CCOO, UGT, SPPMe, and CSIF), but is nevertheless highly critical of the negotiations and refers to the "non-fulfilment of promises by the governing team and the mayor". It has organised the October 6 protest; this will be in Plaça Cort in front of the town hall building.
