A British woman in her seventies has been rushed to hospital after a near-drowning incident on a beach in Mallorca.
The woman, who lives on the island, got into difficulty while swimming at Cala Vinyes beach in Calvia at around 2pm on Thursday. Witnesses said she appeared to feel unwell in the water before bathers and a lifeguard pulled her to safety.
Emergency services, including several local police patrols and a SAMU 061 ambulance, attended the scene. Paramedics stabilised her at the beach before transferring her to hospital. She was taken intubated and remains in a serious condition.
