The controversial poster campaign by the far-right Vox Party which features two women, one of them wearing a burqa, could break civic ordinance rules which were approved by the Palma city council in April. The poster has been put up at key points across the island and the mainland.
Under the slogan ‘What kind of Spain do you want? We know what we want,’ Vox contrasts two women, one wearing a burqa and the other a young woman with blue eyes.
According to Articles 11 and 12 of the civic ordinance ‘conduct and materials that undermine the dignity of individuals on the grounds of religion, beliefs or origin, as well as the placement of posters with discriminatory or humiliating content in public spaces’ are expressly prohibited.
Opposition groups on the council From have urged Mayor Jaime Martínez to ‘immediately remove these posters, as they violate Article 14 of the ordinance he approved in April together with Vox.’
Vox has a tough line on immigration which has led then to clash with other mainstream parties in Spain.
