A new camper site in Son Serra de Marina, Mallorca, has welcomed 279 vehicles from seven different countries during its first four weeks of operation. The pioneering facility, which opened in late July, has become the island's premier destination for motorhome enthusiasts, drawing visitors from Spain, Portugal, Germany, Denmark, France, Italy, and Switzerland.
Four Swiss friends were the first to experience the facility, arriving just days after its opening. "It's perfect, right by the sea, with all necessary amenities and reasonably priced," they remarked after discovering the site through an online search. The nightly fee is set at 16€ per vehicle, which can be split among occupants, making it a cost-effective accommodation option.
A French family of four who also found the site through mobile search shared their experience: "It's incredibly convenient with mobile booking and payment options. The location is simply ideal," the mother explained. The secure facility, protected by fencing and CCTV, offers 21 pitches - expandable to 23 - and provides essential services including drinking water, grey water disposal, and electrical connections.
Professional management and booking system
Asturian company TripStop manages the site through a mobile application that handles reservations and payments, with stays limited to ten consecutive nights. The facility, currently operating with a temporary electrical meter, aims to regulate the growing motorhome tourism sector, which previously concentrated uncontrolled along the beachfront. The project emerged following November 2023 regulations that banned caravan parking along the seafront in Son Serra and Can Picafort.
Local impact and future prospects
The initiative addresses long-standing concerns from residents about unregulated vehicle accumulation along the coast. The local council's solution appears to be successfully balancing community needs with accommodation for mobile tourists. The positive reception has sparked interest in whether other Mallorcan municipalities might develop similar facilities.
