A tourist suffered a fatal heart attack last Sunday at Can Picafort beach in Santa Margalida, Mallorca. Emergency responders conducted extensive life-saving efforts, including multiple defibrillator shocks, before ultimately declaring the man deceased.

The incident occurred at 4.44 PM when a beachgoer alerted lifeguards at Watch Tower 2 about an unconscious man lying in the sand near Bar Chocolate. Rescue personnel immediately rushed to the scene with resuscitation equipment and discovered the tourist had suffered cardiac arrest. They promptly began administering CPR.

Within minutes, the supervisor, chief and emergency coordinator of the beach patrol arrived on scene. They deployed a semi-automatic defibrillator while continuing resuscitation attempts through chest compressions and oxygen therapy.

Swift emergency response

By 4.56 PM, a substantial emergency response had assembled, including two ambulances - one being a basic life support unit from SAMU 061 emergency services - and local police. Shortly after, an advanced life support ambulance joined the scene. By this point, four defibrillator shocks had been administered as rescuers worked together to try to revive the man.

During the incident, 061 medical staff managed oxygen therapy and clinical stabilisation while local police secured the area and assisted family members. Despite achieving temporary return of pulse after 90 seconds of basic CPR, six minutes of semi-automatic defibrillator use, and 27 minutes of advanced resuscitation by 061 emergency services, the man was pronounced dead.
