A Llucmajor Local Police officer saved the life of a man last Friday who collapsed at the entrance of a hotel in Arenal after going into cardiac arrest. Emergency services were called immediately, and the man was rushed to Son Llàtzer Hospital. Doctors later discovered that a cocaine pellet had ruptured in his stomach, causing his life-threatening condition. The 34-year-old Brazilian remains in a critical condition in the ICU.
According to sources familiar with the case, the incident occurred at around 11am. While on patrol, the officer noticed the man lying on the ground, beginning to have convulsions. Moments later, the man stopped breathing and went into full cardiac arrest.
Without hesitation, the officer began performing resuscitation manoeuvres while simultaneously alerting emergency medical services. He continued these life-saving efforts for around fifteen minutes until the paramedics arrived.
Once stabilised by the medical team, the man was taken to Son Llàtzer Hospital. Tests revealed that the patient, who had recently arrived on the island from France, had a stomach full of cocaine pellets, one of which had burst. This caused his heart to stop and put his life in immediate danger.
The paramedics later told the Local Police officer that his quick intervention had been crucial in keeping the man alive. The Brazilian remains in the ICU, with the Guardia Civil closely monitoring his condition.
