12 year old girl dies in Mallorca after drowning in Menorca holiday home pool

The girl was discovered in the pool unconscious by the family’s carer

A 12-year-old French girl tragically died on Friday morning in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Son Espases Hospital in Palma. She had drowned earlier in the week, on Tuesday afternoon, in the pool of a holiday home in Cala Blanca, Menorca.

The girl was discovered unconscious by the family’s carer in the pool just before 7 pm. Emergency services were called immediately, and paramedics from 061, along with a doctor, managed to restore her vital signs. Despite their efforts, she remained unconscious.

She was initially taken to Mateu Orfila Hospital, but doctors decided she needed more specialised care and arranged for her transfer to Son Espases Hospital. She was admitted to the Paediatric ICU, where, sadly, she could not be saved.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Preliminary reports suggest the drowning may have been caused by a sudden illness while she was swimming—such as dizziness or vomiting. There were no signs of violence on her body, and she had no known prior health conditions.

The tragedy has shocked both local residents and fellow holidaymakers. The National Police continue to work with the family to determine the exact cause of the accident, while expressing condolences for the loss of the young tourist.
