The one-time Pescados Miró lobster hatchery in El Peñón, Coll d'en Rabassa (Palma) has been a squat for several months.

There is room to accommodate around ten people, and the occupants, all said to be of north African origin, have sea views from a terrace that has sunloungers, parasols, tables and chairs and a Spanish flag.

Some local residents believe that the flag is provocation. The squat has caused tension. Residents and businesses have protested against the squatters, who they accuse of theft; the squatters have denied this. There is regular noise. The police have been to the squat on various occasions.

The building is dilapidated, but it is in - as estate agents might put it - a privileged location overlooking the sea. Posts on social media by the occupants make this point. And to deter others from entering the upper part of the building (the residential part), they have sealed the place with a lock.

Residents feel that failure to take action against the squatters could lead to the tension boiling over.
