An Alcudia Police officer was stabbed in the early hours of Friday morning at a drink-driving control in the port area.
Around 4am, a car being driven by a 34-year-old Colombian man, an Alcudia resident, was stopped. There were two passengers, both family members. He was fully cooperative until the breath test revealed that he was more than three times over the limit.
When one of the officers asked him to sign the proposed sanction report, he suddenly produced a knife from a pocket. He grabbed the officer's arm and went to stab him in the neck. The officer reacted but was cut on the arm. Colleagues went to his assistance, and the driver was restrained.
A tourniquet was applied before medics arrived. The wound required a dozen stitches. The driver was arrested and the matter was handed over to the Guardia Civil.
