Ten people associated with the drugs and money laundering organisation are now in prison, this Mallorca-based gang having been smashed in a major Guardia Civil-National Police operation on Monday.

Details are beginning to emerge of how thorough the leaders were, or intended to be, in facilitating their activities. In this regard, intercepted conversations between lawyer Gonzalo Márquez and Stefan Milojevic of the United Tribuns indicate that in May this year they planned to recruit a Guardia Civil officer.

The officer's name was specifically raised. He was "about to retire", while it was said that he had been having "a very bad time". But what they perhaps didn't know was that this officer was among those investigating the organisation. The planned recruitment, it would seem, was not pursued.

The wiretaps also referred to the appointment of a Palma Port Police officer. Said to be one of the organisation's members, this was celebrated by the two with the message: "We now have a guardhouse at the port." He had been in his new position for just a few days when he was arrested by the National Police.

The main police association is with Inspector Faustino Nogales of the National Police. Formerly with the Narcotics Squad, he was remanded in custody on Thursday. His case is subject to court secrecy, though it is believed he has been charged with passing on information.

Gonzalo Márquez was the lawyer for many of those who have been arrested. His relationship with Milojevic dates back to at least 2020 and when he defended 16 members of the United Tribuns gang.
