On Monday evening, the driver of a TIB route 104 articulated bus was arrested after failing both drug and alcohol tests. The incident occurred at around 5.30pm while the vehicle was travelling its usual service from Magalluf to Palma, passing through Palmanova, Son Caliu, Costa d’en Blanes, and Portals Nous.
Several passengers raised the alarm after noticing the driver’s erratic behaviour and unsafe driving, fearing that an accident might occur. Some on board contacted media outlet Cronica Balear to share their concerns about the unfolding situation.
Emergency services were swiftly notified, and a Guardia Civil patrol intercepted the bus near Plaza del Progreso in Palma. Officers brought the vehicle to a controlled halt and safely evacuated between 70 and 80 passengers. They were left waiting at the roadside until a replacement bus was dispatched to complete their journey.
The driver underwent immediate drug and alcohol screening, which confirmed that he was under the influence. He was barred from continuing the journey and now faces legal proceedings.
A representative from the bus operating company attended the scene to coordinate the recovery of the vehicle. A replacement driver was brought in to move the bus, which forms part of a service frequently used by both tourists and locals.
