Nowhere seems immune from graffiti, not even a World Heritage Site.

On the Coll dels Reis in the Tramuntana Mountains, a wall has been defaced. This wall is among the remains of the project to build a funicular railway to the Puig Major. Abandoned because of the Civil War, it was a scheme devised by Antoni Parietti, the civil engineer who, among other things, was responsible for the road to the Formentor lighthouse.

The funicular, believe it or not, was at least partly intended to serve a ski station. A hundred or so years ago, it did snow a great deal more than nowadays.

Escorca Town Hall has condemned the graffiti. Together with the Council of Mallorca, it is seeking the quickest remedy in order to return the wall to its original state.

In December 2022, it was reported that a law for the mountains envisaged fines for graffiti ranging from 6,001 to one million euros. The Council of Mallorca is currently drafting a revised and broader law for the Tramuntana.
