On 27 February 2026, shops across Mallorca will be giving out reusable bags to tourists who make purchases in local stores. This initiative is part of the event called ‘Smile at a tourist day’ and aims to create a warm welcome for visitors.

The campaign is organised by the Federation of Retail Employers of the Balearic Islands (Afedeco) and is linked to the broader #ThanksForVisitingMallorca campaign, which is led by the Hoteliers Federation in Mallorca (FEHM). The action will take place simultaneously at several well-known spots around the island.

Both Afedeco members and non-member shops are invited to take part in the initiative. The reusable bags, printed with the campaign’s slogan, are designed to represent the hospitality of Mallorca’s local shops and encourage visitors to fill them with local products and souvenirs to take home.

Joana Manresa, president of Afedeco, said the aim is for every tourist to feel welcomed and appreciated. She highlighted that the bag is a symbol of the experience visitors should have — exploring the streets, discovering shops, engaging with locals, and taking a piece of Mallorca back with them.

Beyond showing gratitude to tourists, the federation also wants to promote the importance of maintaining a tourism model that is balanced and suited to the island’s current needs. Manresa stressed that Mallorca welcomes visitors from all over the world, whose stories and cultures enrich local society, and reminded everyone that tourists are part of Mallorca’s history and future.
