The well-known Mallorcan singer Jaume Anglada is in a very serious condition after being hit early this Friday morning while riding his motorbike by a car that fled the scene. According to medical sources, the famous Mallorcan artist has suffered ‘extremely serious’ head trauma and has been taken to Son Espases Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Palma Local Police have arrested the driver of the vehicle, who is charged with failure to provide assistance and causing injury through gross negligence. The incident, according to the 061 emergency services, took place at around 1.30 a.m. at number 330 on Avenida Joan Miró in Palma.
Jaume Anglada was riding his motorbike when he came face to face with a car travelling in the opposite direction. At one point, the driver of the car turned into a road, performing a prohibited manoeuvre. The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the car.
Far from stopping to check on the victim, the driver responsible for the accident drove off. Several witnesses took down the reckless driver’s licence plate number. When the Palma Local Police arrived, they provided the information to the officers, who took the necessary steps to locate the suspect. At the same time, they called the emergency services given the seriousness of the incident.
The Samu 061 emergency services confirmed at the scene that Anglada had suffered a ‘serious head injury’ and rushed him to Son Espases. While all this was happening, the officers, with the information provided by witnesses, went to the home of the owner of the car that caused the accident and arrested him. He is accused of a crime of failure to render assistance and injury due to gross negligence.
