A Bulletin reader and Mallorca resident captured what could have turned into a very serious forest fire on Thursday evening. He states “Dramatic scenes tonight as Mallorcan fire services battled to bring a wildfire under control on the North of the island. Smoke first seen south of the Tramuntana village of Moscari just after 1800.
"Then flames erupted across a stretch of land between the village and the Inca to Sa Pobla motorway. A spotter plane was quickly on the scene followed by fire control helicopter using water bucket...fortunately the Inca reservoir near the hospital is close by. Then a fire control sea plane from Puerto Pollensa arrived. Sirens can be heard from the village presumably fire fighters on the scene.
“It was a relatively small wildfire that without the incredibly swift actions of the fire services could have turned into something much worse. As someone watching from a safe distance, from the moment we saw smoke and realised this was not just a garden bonfire (who would at this time of year?) the spotter plane was on the scene very quickly followed by fire fighting services.
“It was clearly a race against time by the fire authorities to bring the flames under control before the blaze spread.”
