A 77-year-old man has died after falling from a cliffside while fishing with his grandson in Pollensa, Mallorca. The tragic incident took place in a rocky area of Cala Sant Vicente, a popular coastal spot known for its rugged terrain and scenic views. The man is believed to have lost his footing and slipped, falling onto the rocks below.

The man and his 15-year-old grandson had set out early in the morning to spend time fishing together. At some point during their outing, the elderly man slipped while walking along the uneven terrain and fell from the cliffs. The impact of the fall caused fatal injuries, and he died at the scene.

The teenager, who witnessed the entire incident, was left in a state of shock. He initially tried to call emergency services using his mobile phone, but there was no reception in the area. Alone and distressed, he was forced to walk a considerable distance until he could find signal and place the emergency call.

Upon receiving the alert, emergency services swiftly mobilised. A helicopter from the Guardia Civil’s Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) was dispatched to recover the man’s body. Additional teams from the Guardia Civil, Bombers de Mallorca (Mallorca Fire Brigade), and several ambulances with medical staff were also sent to the scene.

Authorities have confirmed the details of the incident and highlighted the dangers of the area’s rocky terrain, particularly when not equipped with proper safety gear. The boy, though physically unharmed, is receiving support after the traumatic experience of witnessing his grandfather’s fatal fall.
