National Police officers have arrested four young people as the alleged perpetrators of a crime of robbery with violence and injury, for robbing and assaulting another young man whom they eventually threw into the sea from the Paseo Marítimo in Palma. In a press release, the National Police reported that the incident took place last Friday at around 4.30 a.m., when a young man asked for help after being assaulted and suffering a deep cut to his head.

Several National Police patrols assisted the victim, who said that moments earlier, while walking along the seafront promenade with a girl, he was approached by four young men who began to assault him, stealing his mobile phone and backpack. After taking his belongings, they threw him into the water and left him there while they fled the area, he added.

The officers called an ambulance, which attended to the victim, who required stitches. However, the young man did not want to be treated at the scene and was taken to hospital. Several patrols carried out a search of the area and located a group of people, both men and women, among whom were the alleged perpetrators.

The officers gathered information from witnesses, who indicated that, moments earlier, the victim had picked up a girl to take her with him and two friends had tried to intervene to get him to let her go, without success. Apparently, this was witnessed by a group of four young men who began to assault the victim, taking his belongings, one of them hitting him with a stone and then throwing him into the sea.

In view of the facts, the officers proceeded to arrest the four young men as alleged perpetrators of a crime of robbery with violence and bodily harm. One of the detainees was carrying the victim’s mobile phone, claiming that he had found it. The phone was returned to its owner.
