The Guardia Civil have launched a full investigation after up to six bodies were discovered in Balearic waters with their hands and feet tied together. The investigations began last month, after the discovery of the first bound-body. In total, between 4 and 6 bodies have been found and are being carefully analysed by police doctors.
Not all the bodies found in these circumstances have been discovered wearing life jackets, but some of them have, so everything suggests that they are migrants. The Guardia Civil immediately opened the investigative process after locating the first body.
Government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, said "The appearance of these bodies tied up confirms that we are living a migratory nightmare that some strive to deny and trivialise."
Scores of small boats have been intercepted by the police and maritime patrol units bringing illegal immigrants from North Africa.
Last year it is estimated that up to 5,000 people tried to cross into the Balearics illegally from North Africa by boat.
