A 10-metre-yacht which was sailing close to Magalluf with four people on board sank close to the beach at lunchtime on Friday after it took on water.
Beach lifeguards were first on the scene after spotting what was happening in the distance. Shortly afterwards, a rescue boat joined the operation.
The incident, according to official sources, took place at around 1pm. From the watchtower on the beach, one of the lifeguards saw the boat, the German registered Vida Loca, sinking relatively quickly from the stern.
At that moment, the Calvià Town Hall rescue boat was deployed. One of the lifeguards managed to find two of the crew members and put them safely on the rescue board.
