The mayor of Arta, Manolo Galán, has called a meeting of Colonia Sant Pere residents to explain actions that will be taken due to a "very delicate" situation with water supplies; the meeting will be at 8.30pm on Friday at the Senior Citizens' Club.
The wells that supply water to Colonia Sant Pere have dropped to very worrying levels. According to Arta town hall, these are at "a state of alert" and with the prospects for the coming months not at all favourable.
Work has been ongoing over recent months and this week there has been an intensification in the search for leaks in the water network.
Large consumers of water are being monitored on a daily basis. Information gathered about this consumption has been sent to those who use a great deal of water along with a letter stressing the need to control abuse.
A new well has been started in the area, and the town hall is waiting for Balearic government authorisation to extract water.
Leaflets with information in several languages about water savings have been distributed. The town hall is meanwhile drafting a decree that will set out mandatory measures.
