Bundles containing some 300 kilos of hashish have so far been recovered in the Calvia area in what appears to have been a failed drugs landing.

Four bundles were found in Santa Ponsa on Saturday morning and others were later collected from the sea, mainly in the Santa Ponsa area.

The Guardia Civil have mounted a special surveillance operation off the coast of both Calvia and Andratx. Land patrols have also been stepped up. As well as keeping an eye out for any more bundles, the Guardia want to deter anyone who comes across a bundle from keeping it and then selling the drugs. Some of the hash found in Santa Ponsa had been taken.

It is believed that the bundles fell into the sea from a boat that was caught in rough seas and high winds and that the intention had been to land somewhere in order to offload the drugs.
