At least a dozen arrests were made on Tuesday following a combined Guardia Civil and National Police operation, said to have been one of the largest ever operations against drugs trafficking and organised crime in Mallorca. More arrests are expected.
The operation was launched at 5.10am. Raids were carried out in the Son Banya shanty town and in Virgen de Lluc in Palma, elsewhere in the capital as well as in various municipalities across the island and in Barcelona and Tarragona.
Among those arrested is El Ove, a well-known Son Banya drugs baron.
Heir to the Los Bizcos clan, he was once found to have been registered for work with social security for fifteen days but to have a BMW, an Audi, a Mercedes van and a Chrysler. He had also bought a property in Son Prunes and a house in La Soledat; renovation on this property was valued at around one hundred thousand euros.
