Leading hotel groups in Mallorca and Spanish airlines such as Air Europa are to undertake a major promotional campaign directed at national tourists. This will complement the national campaigns to be run by the Council of Mallorca's tourism foundation and the government's Aetib strategic tourism agency.
Airlines will be increasing the number of flights to Mallorca, as demand for the island and the rest of the Balearics is said to be "very high". Hotels are, however, being asked to keep their prices in check.
Tourism minister Iago Negueruela says that the aim is to extend the tourism season for as long as possible in order to maximise the amount of sales turnover, create jobs and generate "a positive impact on Balearic GDP".
From July, airports in the Balearics are anticipating an increase of some 35% in the number of flights arriving from different regions of Spain.
* In 2019, Spanish tourism in Mallorca represented 13.5% of the total (1.6 million tourists).
