In 53 of the 58 health areas in the Balearics the cumulative incidence of coronavirus has come down.

The director-general of public health, Maria Antónia Font, said on Friday that a combination of community action, information and public responsibility have contributed to this reduction. She presented data for the fortnight up to last Friday and for the fortnight up to September 4 in highlighting, for example, a decrease from 6.02 cases per 1,000 inhabitants in Pere Garau (Palma) to 2.19. The five health areas where the incidence increased were Verge del Toro (Mahon), Serra Nord (Soller), Santanyi, Marines de Muro and Es Viver (Ibiza).

Of all cases in the Balearics, 50.9% have been of people between the ages of 20 and 49 - 2,257 (20-29); 2,466 (30-39); 2,355 (40-49). The age range with the highest number (2,844) is 50-69. These are figures based on 13,049 verified cases since March.

According to Font, since the start of the pandemic there have been 199 outbreaks, 43% of which have been family-related. "It is very important to cut this family transmission because later it goes to other areas."
