Majorca has been placed on forest fire alert today because of high temperatures and strong gusts of wind.
Large areas of the interior of Majorca, the Llevant coast and the south of Majorca, as well as areas of the Serra de Tramuntana and the Formentor peninsula have extreme or very high risk of fires, as reported by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
As of July 28, a total of 55,554.59 hectares of land have burned in Spain since the beginning of 2019, which is almost five times more than in the same period in 2018 with 11,671.54 hectares burned, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA).
