The Guardia Civil's Tráfico division is now deploying drones to look out for traffic infringements. The use of drones started on Thursday. The national director-general for traffic, Pere Navarro, said yesterday that when a drone detects "irregular manouevres", these are automatically relayed to a patrol. Drivers can pay on the spot and get a 50% discount; credit cards are accepted.

The drones will also be capable of picking out drivers using phones or not wearing seat belts, for which the fine is 200 euros plus the loss of three points on the driving licence.

The Guardia Civil have eleven drones available to them at present. They complement helicopters, cameras and speed traps used to monitor motorways and main roads.
