A 25-year-old Briton was arrested on Saturday morning for having stabbed four British tourists on calle Punta Ballena in Magalluf.

The incident occurred at around quarter past four. It is reported that the Briton was with two illegal street sellers who robbed the tourists of phones and wallets. The sellers ran off and a fight ensued, during which the Briton produced a weapon - variously described as a razor or a knife - and attacked the four.

An ambulance crew was in the area and was alerted to what had happened. One of the four, despite being wounded, had managed to grab hold of the attacker around the neck, and a member of the ambulance crew assisted in restraining him.

Officers from Calvia police and the Guardia Civil cordoned off the area, the incident having attracted a crowd, and further ambulance assistance was called for. The four victims were treated at Son Espases Hospital for wounds to arms, backs and chests; none of the wounds were serious. The attacker was also treated for the condition he was in because of drugs he had apparently taken.
