Capdepera police have arrested three men who are accused of having been responsible for a wave of thefts on Cala Agulla beach.
Between 23 July and 4 August the police received numerous reports of theft, in particular at the area of the beach reserved for sunloungers. The police took statements from victims and witnesses and mounted patrols with uniformed and plainclothes officers. The information pointed to an individual of Moroccan origin with a shaved head but a distinctive blond crest. Workers in the area identified the use of a Citroën Xsara by the thieves.
On Saturday, a traffic control was set up on the Cala Agulla avenue. The police were anticipating that the car would come along. It did and was stopped. A search of the vehicle revealed mobile phones, cash, cards and backpacks containing women's clothes. The three men in the car, all Moroccan, were unable to provide a credible explanation as to why they had these items in their possession.
The police believe that the three were responsible for dozens of thefts.
