Summer started at seven minutes past midday yesterday. Aemet is forecasting that the summer will be slightly hotter than usual and is following a spring that was particularly wet in Majorca and Minorca but not in Ibiza and Formentor.
For the night of Sant Joan, Saturday into Sunday, the met agency is predicting 21 degrees, having fallen from a daytime high of 27C. Sea temperature is around 23 degrees.
The highest temperatures, Aemet suggests, will be from the middle of July until mid-August and be boosted by air from Africa. In the second half of August, some instability is predicted, which could lead to storms. If so, this would follow a common enough pattern.
Between July and September, the agency also forecasts that there will be more rain than usual. The average is 87 litres per square metre.
As for meteorological spring (1 March to 31 May), the highest temperature was 29.4C in Binissalem on 25 May. Since then, the highest has been 32.9C in Sa Pobla on 9 June. The coldest was minus 1.9C at the Serra de Alfàbia weather station on 20 March.
