Filming for the documentary.

Yesterday, at Palma's Sala Augusta, there was the premiere of a documentary to mark the 125th anniversary of the Ultima Hora newspaper, which first appeared on 1 May, 1893.

Entitled "125 years of stories", the documentary was produced by Nova Televisió, and its director, Pilar Lillo, says that it is informative and serious but combined with entertainment. The documentary's development has drawn on old issues of the paper, photos, illustrations, fiction and interviews. The resulting sixty minutes tell the story of the paper and the chief personalities involved with its history. Journalism and Majorca are the backdrop and the setting to the paper's development over the passage of time.

Yesterday's Ultima Hora included a facsimile of the very first edition, a reflection of Majorca at the end of the nineteenth century. Newspaper production has today changed substantially from the days of its founder, the visionary Josep Tous Ferrer.

In November there will be another special issue that will bring together the main news stories over the 125 years.

The documentary is to be shown at Sala Augusta (on the Avenida Joan March) from 4 to 10 May at 6.15pm and on 15 May at the Manacor Aficine. Viewings are free but numbers are limited. Reservations can be made by phoning 971 722 842 (Spanish).
