Parts of Majorca took a buffeting from high winds today (Wednesday). Gusts in the Tramuntana reached 100kph. There was also a burst of wintry weather. A hail and thunder storm around midday turned areas of the island white for a short time.
Gale force wind and torrential rain had hit the island overnight, but conditions around midday caused particular and widespread problems for the emergency services. The wind brought down dozens of trees in Palma, damaging property and blocking roads and pavements, while the exteriors of a number of properties were also affected, as were cars parked next to them.
Fire services had needed to intervene in order to prevent a number of vessels from slipping their moorings in the Port of Palma overnight.
Aemet forecasts cloudy skies and the occasional shower on Thursday. There will be brighter weather in the afternoon. The current forecast for both Friday and Saturday is for rain, with highs of up to 18C.
