Balearics foreign tourism has increased six per cent

Tourism just keeps on increasing. But for how much longer? | Jaume Morey

From January to October there were 13,514,229 foreign tourists in the Balearics, six per cent more than for the same ten months of 2016. With 17.2 million tourists, the region which registered the most was, as is normal, Catalonia.

According to the latest figures from the Frontur analysis of tourist movement, Germany provided 40.9% of tourists in the Balearics. The UK was second with 26.3%.

In October, there were 1,256,152 tourists, which represented an increase of 1.1%. Catalonia had 20.5% of the October market, the Canaries 18% and the Balearics 17.3%. In the case of Catalonia, its foreign tourism was down 4.7% in October, a reflection of the political situation in that region.

For Spain as a whole there were 73.4 million tourists over the first ten months of the year, a rise of 9.2%. The UK with 17.1 million tourists (up 7.1%) provided more than other countries. In October there were 7.3 million tourists, an increase of 1.8%. The UK with 1.66 million contributed almost 23% of the total.
