As explained in the Enjoying Majorca feature in the Bulletin on Tuesday, one of the most anticipated nativity scenes has become one that isn't in Palma but is the creation in Maria de la Salut by Nadal Ferriol.
His work, as with that of some other makers of nativity scenes, has adopted some contemporary themes, but the nativities are usually of a traditional nature, and among the most lavish of these traditional scenes is the one on the fourth floor of the El Corte Inglés store in the Avenidas in Palma.
This year's nativity, some 75 square metres in size, was opened on Tuesday. For the ninth consecutive year it has been created by the Francesc Rosselló "Agrupación de Belenistas de Baleares", the association of nativity-scene makers.
The El Corte Inglés nativity has been made with traditional materials, such as cork and moss, and its figures are of high artistic quality. The nativity can be seen during shop opening hours and will be on show until 7 January.
