The Guardia Civil and Calvia police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a mass brawl in Paguera that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Some one hundred young people were involved in the fight on the Palmira beach promenade. The reason for the brawl is not as yet known, but it is understood that many of the young people regularly take part in a street drinking "botellón" in the area.
Several premises were damaged, with windows, chairs and tables broken. Street furniture, such as planters, was also damaged, some of this having been used during the fight.
A witness said that in winter there are commonly this number of young people causing trouble because of the street drinking.
The incident comes shortly after a report which suggested that in Magalluf there are significant problems with drinking and fighting in the winter that have nothing to do with holidaymakers.
