Monarch may well be flying thousands of stranded clients back to the UK ahead of the 15 October deadline by which time all of their passengers overseas have to be repatriated, but the Bulletin learned yesterday that a number of passengers had received no information at all from the airline.
One British couple, who were booked to fly back to the UK early next week, said yesterday that they have had no contact with the airline and that all they know is what they can gather from television and press reports.
"There is a number to call but it just goes to an answerphone. We have made plans for the weekend but, as a precaution, we’ve cancelled them in case Monarch does suddenly contact us to inform us we’re on the next flight. We’re in limbo, we just don’t know what’s going on. We booked these flights back in June and now we’re totally in the dark."
Another couple hit by the airline’s collapse were looking forward to hosting guests on the island this weekend, but they were due to arrive last night and obviously have been left stranded in the UK with their flights cancelled. And there are very few, if any seats available to the Balearics with other airlines because so many of the 40,000 due to have flown out here with Monarch between now and 15 October have been quick to book new flights with other airlines.
"We were looking forward to a long weekend with our friends, going to the tennis. It was going to be a treat for our guests."
