This Sunday, 1 October, is the day for "Los Pueblos más Bonitos de España" - Spain's prettiest villages. There are 57 of them in all, one of them being Fornalutx, which is the only village in Majorca and the Balearics to have this distinction. Fornalutx was added to this exclusive network last year, and in January there was a ceremony at the Fitur travel fair in Madrid to honour its inclusion.
Now firmly part of the network, Fornalutx will be joining the other 56 villages in having a day of festivities. All mayors of the prettiest villages will hoist the association's flag and read out a manifesto regarding the preservation of artistic and cultural heritage in the villages.
There will be a number of cultural events this Sunday in order to reaffirm the importance of the villages as examples of authenticity in terms of heritage, customs and gastronomy.
