Thirteen people arrested on Thursday during the Guardia Civil anti-drugs operation in Magalluf and Palma appeared in court yesterday; twelve have been sent to prison. There were fifteen arrests in all. One person was released prior to going to court, one other was released following the court appearance and the third was taken to Barcelona for a court appearance linked to the operation in Majorca.

Twelve of those arrested were British, all said to come from Manchester or Liverpool.

Raids on twelve properties - three in Palma and nine in Calvia (most of them in Magalluf) - led to the seizure of three kilograms of cocaine, 103,000 euros cash, four vehicles and quantities of other drugs, especially ecstasy.

Operation Tatum, which unfolded on Thursday, was a follow-up to last summer's Operation Dajú. Four people - two British, two Spanish - were arrested then. They had been supplying drugs in Punta Ballena and elsewhere in Magalluf. Almost five kilos of cocaine were seized during that operation.

The Guardia Civil was aware that despite the success of that operation, there was still a gang (mainly British citizens) that was active in Magalluf. The Guardia drew on the support of the National Crime Agency in the UK in carrying out last week's operation.

The national interior minister, Juan Ignacio Zoldo, went onto social media yesterday to congratulate the Guardia Civil for its operation. Calvia's mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez, posted "Excellent news" on his Facebook profile.
