Temperatures across much of Spain are forecast to decrease from today until Friday. At the weekend, they are expected to start rising again but not to the sort of levels registered recently.
The Aemet meteorology agency says that the heat wave is at an end and that today there will be cloudy conditions, showers and storms over part of the country. A more generalised drop in temperature can be expected tomorrow, and there will be a marked drop in the north of Spain on Thursday. On Friday, temperatures will start to rise, but there could be some showers, including in the Balearics.
The high temperatures on the mainland were at their peak on 13 July. Seven weather stations registered records, such as Cordoba with 46.9C. At Badajoz airport the high was 45.4C and at Granada airport it was 45.3C.
In Majorca, the highest temperature recorded so far this year was 40.3C at Palma airport on 8 July.
