Soller hoteliers criticising a lack of taxis

There are not enough taxis in Soller. | Lluc Garcia

The hoteliers association in Soller has called on the town hall to address the "serious deficiencies" in the town's taxi service during the summer. If it can't, the association says that there should be direct management (by the hoteliers) of seasonal licences in order to remove inconveniences for their clients in the town of Soller and also in Puerto Soller.

Lluis Rullan, the association's vice-president, has met the mayor, Jaume Servera, and told him about the complaints of the association's members. Rullan says that there have been various examples of problems being experienced. These include taxis for the airport being over half an hour late in picking people up, despite the taxi having been booked in advance. Hikers, he notes, are unable to return from their days out in the likes of Cala Deya because there aren't taxis to collect them.

In certain instances, hoteliers have resorted to taking clients themselves. The longest waits for taxis are apparently up to five hours. Meanwhile, there are other complaints - passengers being unable to contact the taxi service and cars not having baby seats.
