Over the first fortnight of June, Calvia police filed 342 reports of breaches of the municipal bylaw for the development of coexistence. Most of these (243) related to illegal selling. There were 25 for nudism or semi-nudism in unauthorised areas, ten for street drinking and ten more for the use and possession of drugs.
The 342 number was virtually identical to the same period last year, when there were 345. Of those, 254 were for illegal selling. So far this year, and excluding the first two weeks of June, there have been 859 "denuncias" in all.
Meanwhile, Calvia's mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez, is to hold meetings with hoteliers and nightlife business owners in Magalluf's Punta Ballena area and Santa Ponsa's Ramon de Montcada. These meetings will be to involve businesses in fighting to eradicate "tourism of excesses", which damages Calvia's image.
Rodríguez is looking for business cooperation because, despite efforts made by administrations in terms of security and also by some businesses, there are other businesses which appear to be reluctant to change. Without this total change, "it will be very difficult to solve the problem".
