The Atlàntida Film Fest will be held between 26 June and 2 July. The star guest will be British actress Vanessa Redgrave, whose first film as a director, the documentary Sea Sorrow about the migration crisis, was shown at the recent Cannes Film Festival.

Redgrave will close the event for independent cinema and which has its theme the current social and political situation in Europe. It will use four locations in Palma - CineCiutat, the Museum of Majorca, La Misericordia and Ses Voltes park. Its director, Jaume Ripoli, anticipates there being more people than ever watching films and taking part in conferences and workshops. Last year's festival, the sixth, attracted over 4,500 people. Ripoli stresses that Atlàntida is "the only festival in the world which is 100% free".

In addition to the locations, films will be shown via the internet and two Balearic productions will be broadcast by IB3. These are: En acabar (In Finishing) by Guillem Miró and the documentary Vida i mort d’un arquitecte by Miguel Eek, which is about the life and times of the architect Josep Ferragut. He played a significant role in architecture and town planning from the 1950s and was responsible, among other things, for the GESA building in Palma and the original power station in Alcudia.

There will be some world premieres at the festival and among the various films being shown will be Tilda Swinton's The Seasons in Quincy: Four Portraits of John Berger and ones which are considered essential for understanding the role of the European Union - Stranger In Paradise and The European.
